Testbeds and trials for 5G deployments
Abstract
The first set of 5G features (5G Phase 1 under 3GPP Release 15) is currently being defined by standards bodies and is supposed to be finalized by 2018 Q3.
Therefore, the first proprietary and pre-market trials and testbeds of selected parts of 5G systems will start appearing in the next quarters, as the
market lunch of 5G Phase 1 features is supposed to happen slightly afterwards the standard work is completed, i.e. in 2019.
This Industrial Panel focuses on exploring the current status of some most promising existing and planned testbeds and trials for frontrunner 5G deployments, mainly targeting the Internet of things (IoT) / Machine Type Communication (MTC) paradigms, focusing on some key 5G verticals like automotive and Smart-X (cities, industry, etc.). The visions of some key international research projects will be provided, together with the point of view of the industry on a possible roadmap for deployment.
The Industrial Panel is split in two parts: at first some short presentations will be provided on topics of interest for the panel, then an open and interactive discussion will be fostered with the audience, driven by some key questions shared beforehand with the panelists, so to best steer the discussion.
The Industrial Panel is composed of well-known speakers working for key international player in the wireless ecosystem, providing both the point of view of industry (Intel, Telefonica, Rohde & Schwarz, Casa System, IS-Wireless), and of business-oriented technology (Grenoble Ecole de Management).
